Are you a teacher looking for a classroom friendly app that helps your children form their letters and number correctly, or a parent looking to support your child with his or her handwriting?
At Leafcutter Studios we have been producing handwriting apps for almost ten years. Our longest running app, BlobbleWrite, was created in 2011 and teaches handwriting skills to young children using a proven ‘show and copy’ method. The app, which is available on iPad, iPhone, Android and Amazon Fire devices, has been used extensively in schools and homes around the world.
BlobbleWrite uses a specially designed font to ensure that children can reproduce the letter and number forms exactly. The app also produces phonetically correct pronunciation sounds for each of the letters to ensure that early learners begin to associate the correct phonetic sounds with the letters they are writing.
A second app, BlobbleWrite Beginners, is aimed at young learners who are just beginning to put pencil to paper. Before starting to learn letter forms it is sometimes beneficial for children to spend time practicing tracing simple lines and curves.
BlobbleWrite Beginners uses the same ‘show and copy’ method used in BlobbleWrite to introduce children to tracing straight lines - horizontal, vertical and diagonal. There are then further sections for corners, curves and finally shapes and combinations. Children can build confidence with these simple line forms, which will help them as they make the transition to learning the more complicated patterns in letters that we see in the main BlobbleWrite app.
Although the BlobbleWrite apps are mostly used by young children in pre-school, Reception and EYFS settings, SENCO teachers may find the BlobbleWrite apps to be beneficial for young learners of any age who find handwriting challenging due to difficulties with fine motor skills.
